Vampires on the Moon, and other stories...
Feels like it’s been a very long time since the start of the weekend. In fact, I can’t actually remember what I did on Friday night at this point. I think I started to play a board game with James, but I know that was late on the evening.
Saturday was spent unpacking boxes, trying to set up the TV (signal strength in our house is abysmal, so my Freeview box won’t get many channels, and I can barely tune in the TV), and re-packing boxes of stuff I don’t want – I think I’ve emptied seven boxes, and filled five. So, at least I’m ahead.
Sunday started poorly, to be honest. After a morning that didn’t go stunningly, for a variety of reasons, James and I set off into London. Just before Archway, I had to get him to pull over so I could get the indigestion tablets from my bag, which largely did nothing for me. By the time I got to the pub, I was ready to throw up, and spent the next couple of hours running into the toilets at regular intervals, to nearly do so. Obviously, this had something of an impact on my Garou game. I ended up getting people to come to me while I sat on a sofa upstairs, and I think it was actually productive. Then, there was Jamie’s Gathering, which was one of the better ones we’ve done, even if it did go wrong. Thankfully, the second attempt worked, and now we have a new thing to go poke & smash into tiny bits.
The last thing that happened was MRT Challenging MSR for Alpha of the Sept. In hindsight, on some level I don’t think I wanted to win this fight. Pulling it apart afterwards, to see why I lost, I realised that I hadn’t factored in two sets of Physical Trait bonuses, hadn’t allowed for any prep time, and then used things that I’d specifically forbidden people from using in the fight. All this, without really realising it until it was far too late. At the end of the day, though, Si beat me, and it might even be a good thing. It’ll certainly cause me less stress, and frees me up to do a lot of things I wanted to do, but didn’t feel I could. So, while I’m kicking myself for forgetting stuff, I’m not gutted about the result.
Anyway, after a brief break for food, with my stomach somewhat improved, we headed back for the Cam game. After a couple of conversations in the pre-game wait, I got all riled up IC, and ready for a couple of big arguments I wanted to have with some people. And pretty much just after I hit the bottom of the stairs, an apologetic Ginnie came up to remind me that I’d agreed to meet Jade in private somewhere before the Court.
Which turned out to be the starting of an Assamite hit. Two Elders, and a decent Thaumaturge, were set up waiting for me – the first thing that happened was that I lost control of my Blood, then five Paper Fleshes went off, taking out my Fortitude, and then they started to hit me. 99% of the time, that would have been enough to kill someone, but I got lucky. Really lucky. And then Duncan turned up. A few rounds later, I hadn’t taken any damage overall, and the Elders bugged out, leaving the Thaumaturge behind.
I managed to catch my breath, as Tristan & Face arrived. Face left at high speed, in pursuit of the Assamites, and then the SFS teleported in, for the second hit on me in one day. Luckily for me, one of their opening moves removed the Paper Fleshes, by accident, which meant I felt a lot better about the fight. Again, my sheet held up to a huge amount of punishment, and my various tricks at least stopped them killing me. Temporis, I’ve discovered, is horrible, and could be an absolute killer, but Kineticism is also really useful, and can be a lifesaver. On the downside, Kieran is now on the Moon, with Duncan, until we can resolve that. So it didn’t all go my way.
Normally, when things happen and my game gets horribly disrupted, I get grouchy really fast. Neither of these hits did that – they all felt good, in that there wasn’t any OOC arguments going on, or horribly stressful things happening. The combat was all pretty good-natured, with a number of compliments going round on people’s sheets, and the way they handled them – I actually enjoyed the whole thing.
Getting home on that evening led to me being up till about 3, or possibly later, and then my alarms went of on Monday morning around nine. Which wasn’t really what I wanted to happen. Apart from a trip to Asda, and getting sent to the Manchester of the Future in Cthulu (17 Sanity Points! 17!), I pretty much wasted Monday, with the internet sapping my will to do anything apart from click on links.
And now, I’m in work, where I don’t really want to be, with an upset stomach, and a need to organise a Lost proxy.
